  • devotion and commitment by teaching staff
  • positive attitude and commitment of pupils
  • cooperation of parents
  • support of stakeholders

The Burguret Primary School is situated in the Great Rift Valley at the edge of stunning wildlife parks where subsistence farmers grow beans, maize, potatoes, and raise some livestock. We were moved by the strength and persistence of the people we met.

Education is compulsory but the government falls short in financial support.

Classrooms are  overcrowded --

Level 7 students in the main building

There is a shortage of desks and basic school supplies

These shelves hold the entire school library

Sanitary facilities are substandard.--

     the path to the outhouse...

Preschool is in a shed behind the school --

     Dirt floor and no windows

Pre-school students
Pre-school classroom

Clean water storage facilities are inadequate

-- the only water tank
There is no electricity
